Siegfried Schmid might be 62 years old, but the German former hockey player has many good years of coaching left. In fact, the Seattle Sounders just announced that “Sigi,” as he is known, will remain the Sounders’ coach for next season after being the only coach the team has known in its history. Obafemi Martins was just voted the Seattle Sounders’ best player, even after missing two months of play due to an injury. And his achievements are not only noticed by Seattle. This year in the Spanish league has been unlike most. Sure Barcelona is on top, which is not unusual, with Atletico and Real Madrid rounding out the top three for La Liga’s automatic Champions League bids. After the weekend Atletico moved into second place, two points clear of their Madrid neighbors.  Though we see Villarreal, one season removed from playing in the second division, hanging around, as well as Celta Vigo and Eibar. As the Spanish league takes a break this week to accommodate the many international friendlies, the league table had quite a bit of movement, and even a new league leader. As four-time Ballon D’Or winner Leo Messi returned to practice for Barcelona this week, the Catalan side was able to climb into sole possession of first place. Barça shut out fifth-place Villarreal 3-0, with Neymar continuing his hot streak. The Brazilian netted two goals, including a candidate for goal of the year.
